A Paragraph on Puritanism
Puritanism, the extreme Protestants within the Church of England, were a perplexed people. The puritans wanted to "purify" their national church by destroying every facet of Catholicism. There were two types of Puritans: the English and The American. The difference is that the English Puritans had no single theology or definition while the American puritans believed in the absolute sovereignty of God, the total depravity of man, the complete dependence of human being on divine grace for salvation, and the importance of personal religious experiences. Although the puritans have decreased in numbers substantially, some modern puritans still exist today.
